winter winds

christmas is about to come so the city looks completely different. like a girl dressed up for a prom night the city is dressed all in lights and shadowy shapes. and vienna has a taste for the morbid. all saints day is celebrated passionately and some time later we forget about it and decorate kitsch pompously. in a way this reminds me of "melancholia". the trivial set of routines, the constant denial of an ending, the burden of happiness, the way things have to shine when they dont.

so winter is usually is not best time to take pictures because the way the light behaves.however, this is exactly what i wanted to see on these pics, the dancing of flashy light, people just becoming shadows because of the darkness.

im looking forward to christmas anyhow! will spend my last days in hamburg and then berlin! pics are soon to follow!and get in some mood and listen to angus and julia stone "santa monica dream"!

vienna nights.

i really love the architecture of vienna, long walks in the park and flashing lights.

frozen yoghurt.
again.i love what movies are as an art and as an idustry.

watched a documentation about female prostitutes. one part was set in mexico, also captured religious symbols of this certain culture, which i find exciting. i think that there is a connection between (fundamentalists) religion and the low position of women that goes far beyond the simple explanation of patriarchy.

berlin

spend the weekend in berlin. (no,unfortunately i couldn take any pictures in the berghain.)

to me subways always capture the speed of cities. the speed of everyday life. the leaving, the routines, any dynamic process.

a toilet near alexanderplatz, i found the reflection nice for a self portrait.

looking at the typography one can see how cultural sterotypes are reflected through the system of signs.

so i arrived in barcelona earlier than my friends. i then locked my luggage at the airport and went off to the city to see things!
while i enjoy good company, i find it extremely comforting to travel alone. there is this social apsect that comes in. you react to people in a different way when you are on your own and thus meet the most interesting people.
i spend the whole day running around, eating bad food, and observing people. i then went to a nice coffee bar and overheard a nice talk between two guys from new york, who would later tell me about the book i had just bought at the aiport.

this was the book i bought at the airport, i got a bit obsessed by this type of novel,it all started with graham greene's"the end of the affair, which i liked-for what reason ever, maybe because i find the concept of human connection in these novels so interesting. however, i really had a hard time picking the "right" book. i had to choose between the poor prose of murakami and the usual outworn vampire kitschy novel which is all about virginal brides..i then found out the hard way you can't trust "penguin classics" no longer..

so i just had to take a picture of that one. i mean seriously, she's got the body of 10 year old boy and the head looks like bomb desperately waiting to explode. if you are into that type of woman you got some serious issues.
this reads "ray bari".i always find fake glasses extremely uncomfortable to wear but i consider it utterly creative how people can alter the "original" version.

i wonder if it really turns off people.

me and a friend borrowed us some longboards and drove along the pier. it feels so perfect to do that and later swim in the sea.
people queuing on the boarding gate.this is ridiculous. i can never understand why they care so much about getting into the plane being the first one.
it‘s almost if it makes them feel comfotable waiting in a queue, maybe they are secretely looking for some kind of order, as if everything else was chaos.

some people really have weird luggage. what's the sense of that?

the following post will show some impressions of vienna's pride week.
one way of responding to uninspiring political dumbness.
i'm glad i could capture that kiss. it's my favourite kiss of that day.

this must be a real intersting perspective for the woman on the left. i wanted to read her face and interprete it but i couldn't. i still want to know what that felt to her.
the cutest couple i've seen in a long time. i like how men that look hard as a stone can adapt very soft and child-like behaviour. so the one on the left was smiling in the cutest way when he realized i was taking pictures of him.
i love how religion has become part of mass culture.
this looked like a child's game to me, which i found cute since these two look so tough.
they were joining the party from their balcony.
i was at adria the other day. next to us were some guys chatting when all of a sudden another guy approached and started yelling for no particular reason. as i didn't understand the language i can only guess it was either about women or money.however, i took this picture because i was fascinated by this anger, which when looking at it closely, conveys helplessness.

spectacular things happen at night! can you imagine? someone knitting around this grid?how wonderful is that?!i've never noticed! this is even better than guerilla gardening!
summer has arrived! finally!

i was thrilled by her hair.

it's just amazing.

street II

last day in my viennese apartment. lots of memories.
at the popfest. this couple had a drink surrounded by water.
i'm so desperately waiting for summer to come.i want it to be warm and i want each day to have 40 hours.
i walk by this mirrow almost daily, i find it amusing to look above and see your reflection as well as that of the people approaching you without directly looking at them.
i don't know if it was just some kind of kitschy contrast that made me take this picture. no,i don't even think it was about the ageing woman and a simple new-born kitschy blah. i might as well just like it.
if i was to write a novel, it would be a coming of age novel.i've always had a fondness for them. they remind me of myself being 16, sitting in my room reading hesse and feeling so intellectual when actually you were just curiously looking for answers and thinking you could find them in 300 page novel. however, what i found is pleasure and peace in the act of reading. a form a mediation and self reflection that i haven't found anywhere else. what i love particularly about joyce is how good he is at adapting the moods of alienation in the process of growing up, the naive quality of his narrative voice that gives insight to stephen.
i have a hard time taking a decent picture of him. he is so black that either the light is too bright or too dark to make his face visible on a picture. might just be he doesn't want to.
he thought of himself as a prophet i guess, trying to sell his truth or his book. it's funny how different people are. i remember a guy i saw in the central park who was famous for his daily routine of walking the park and shouting at people because he assumed they had sinned, which is very easy considering the original sin.
so i went home to vistit my parent's place
cycled around town

met some cute spiders
went off to graz to visit friends i rarely meet but yet am very close to
went out and took the first train back to vienna, where fortuantely i had a cabin of my own

went to an islamic school. i love this picture because i'm fascinated by what i call "the architecture of teaching". i want to do a series about classrooms and various teaching methods-mostly, the sturcture of a class shows so well what input is given by the teacher since it offers insight to the teacher's personality as well(or thus) as to her/his teaching approach.
pigeonholes always look the same. they don't differ from the ones i had when i was in school.
the students wrote their future hopes into these flags above and did so in Hindi letters.(most of them speak 4 languages.)
i had to wait before my seminar started so i looked at university from above. i waited until the girl was right in the place of the heart.
i find it intersting what kind of people have what kind of dogs.

i've never realized that you can see ageing on your feet.
